Immediately after the birth, we will make sure your baby is breathing easily and that he/she is dry and covered. We encourage you to hold and cuddle your baby as soon as possible after birth.
Skin to skin contact is one of the best ways to promote bonding as well as keeping the baby warm. Uninterrupted skin-to-skin is encouraged the first hour after birth, with babies allowed to initiate breastfeeding in their own time. If your room is cool, a warmer may be placed over mom and baby.
We recommend that you keep the baby cuddled near while you are awake. When parents are sleeping, the baby MUST be kept in the crib.
